Alicia Eaton-Spoll
Figure skater, instructor, mother
As a child, Alicia Eaton-Spoll would burst into tears when she had to come off the ice. Figure skating since she was 9½ years old, Alicia has been passing on her skating knowledge as a coach since 1984, and is now an instructor at the Amarillo Figure Skating School.
“I evolved into it,” says Alicia, who coached in her home state of Connecticut before her and her husband moved to Amarillo more than 10 years ago. “It was a natural progression for me.”
A member of the Professional Skaters Association, Alicia also teaches figure skating at Amarillo College. Taking on the role of an instructor requires much patience, Alicia says, as well as demands a specific skill set and technique.
“People tell you when you start skating, if you really like it, you actually become addicted to it,” Alicia extols as she laces up her custom-made skates. “And people are so dedicated here to skating.”
Alicia, her husband of 20 years, John, and their 13-year-old son, Sam, attend First Baptist Church, where Alicia serves as a Bible School helper.
