Matthew "Bones" Hooks
Taken at a barbecue in 1945, Bones Hooks stands among his fellow cowboys, representing some of the oldest cowboys of the Texas Panhandle. Born in 1867, Bones was a ranch hand who turned into the top horse breaker in the area. (Rumor has it that there wasn’t a horse Bones couldn’t break.) He went on to work 20 years with the Santa Fe Railroad and then became a civic leader until his death in 1951.
