Co-owners Richard Rhone and Micky Winks opened Furrbie’s in 2006, and their mission has been to serve up homemade, from-scratch comfort food in a no-frills downtown hang-out open to everyone from business professionals to bikers.

The diner’s best sellers – from a more-than-ample menu – are its burgers, like the Extreme Cheddar Burger (shown), Mushroom Swiss Burger, and the quirky Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. If you dare, try the XXX Caliente Cheese Burger – but only after signing the required release form. We were thrilled to find authentic Cheese Fritters on the menu just like the ones served by the old Char-Kel Restaurant on Georgia Street.

Furrbie’s 210 SW Sixth Ave., 220.0841

Open Monday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
